Dip Obst, FRNCGP
Appointment Times:
(at Number 128)
Monday to Friday 9am - 6.45pm, Saturday 9am - 11.45.
Brief History
I graduated in medicine from Otago
University in 1974 and received the Diploma in Obstetrics in 1976. I
worked as a rural general practitioner at the Dargaville Medical Centre
for 17 years and earned admission to the Royal New Zealand College of
General Practitioners in 1984. I came to Auckland in 1994, when my wife
was appointed as a minister in Howick, and in collaboration with Doctors
Mark Denekamp and Serene Hu, established Millhouse Medical Centre.
I am
skilled in the care of pregnancy (over 700 babies delivered) and infant
care. I am also experienced in emergency medicine, care of the elderly
and strategies to attain better health. Over the last 30 years I have
pursued specialised training in diet, nutritional therapies and
acupuncture.
My wife Vivian and I have four adult children and five grandchildren.
When I am not busy with medical practice and community involvement, I
enjoy family activities, reading, gardening, swimming and riding my
Harley.
Medical Philosophy:
I aim to assist each person to
attain quality health. I often use conventional medical therapies but in
many cases inherent life energy can be enhanced with simple
interventions in areas like nutrition, exercise, mind transformation and
lifestyle change.
Special Interests:
Acupuncture treatment - for pain states, muscle and joint injuries and
other diseases.
Mind-body intervention - relaxation techniques, meditation, prayer,
taichi etc
Nutritional therapies - using diet, nutritional supplements and herbal
medicines.
Natural hormone therapies - using physiological doses of the body's
hormones
